The benefits of strawberries in your dogs diet

The benefits of strawberries in your dogs diet

COYA’s range of main meals are made with 80% human-grade, raw, fresh meat. But the other 20% is made from five fruit and vegetables that have been specially selected to pack maximum nutrition into all our recipes.

Fruit and vegetables offer incredible benefits to doggy diets; from antioxidant properties, to natural anti-inflammatories, to digestive support, fruit and vegetables offer so much to pet nutrition and we are here to celebrate them!

COYA follows the Ancient Incan method of preserving raw ingreidents through Freeze-Drying, and part of this practice was to harvest fruit and vegetables at the heigh of their season, and by freeze-drying, be able to enjoy them all year round. And this is exactly what COYA does!

So, every month, for 12 months, we will celebrate a fruit of vegetable of that month. A celebration of not only the nutritional benefits of each ingredient, but also a celebration of seasonal eating and natural food preservation, freeze-drying, that is the heart of COYA.

First up? The strawberry! 🍓

Congratulations to the Strawberry. An icon of the Great British summer, fresh & tasty.

Renowned for sunshine, garden parties & Wimbledon, why should humans get all the fun?

Strawberries are a seldom talked about but delicious and healthy treat for dogs and we love them so much we’ve included them in two of our main meal recipes!

But why exactly are strawberries good for dogs? In this month’s ‘fruit of the month’ we take a look in more detail to learn more about this delicious fruit.

Strawberries can be a beneficial addition to a dog’s diet when given in moderation. Here are some reasons why strawberries can be good for dogs and their health:

🍓Nutritional Value

Strawberries are low in calories and high in nutrients. They are a good source of vitamins C and K, as well as fibre, manganese, and antioxidants. These nutrients can support a dog’s overall health and well-being.

🍓Antioxidant Properties

Strawberries contain antioxidants such as anthocyanins, which can help neutralise harmful free radicals in a dog’s body. This may contribute to reducing the risk of chronic diseases and promote a healthy immune system.

🍓Vitamin C Boost

Dogs, like humans, can benefit from vitamin C. Although dogs can produce their own vitamin C, incorporating strawberries into their diet can provide an additional boost. Vitamin C plays a crucial role in collagen formation, wound healing, and overall immune function.

🍓Fiber Content

Strawberries are a good source of dietary fibre, which can promote healthy digestion and regulate bowel movements in dogs. It can aid in preventing constipation and maintaining a healthy gastrointestinal system.

🍓Hydration and Weight Management

Strawberries have high water content, which can contribute to a dog’s hydration. Additionally, their low-calorie nature makes them a suitable treat for dogs on a weight management program.

Strawberries are a perfect treat for dogs, but they’re also included in both our Beef and Fish main meal recipes! Packed full of nutrients and, importantly, delicious, you can even get creative by creating your own ‘chocolate covered strawberries’ like we did, by dipping them in our beef topper!

Remember to introduce strawberries gradually into your dog’s diet, and always remove the stems and leaves, as they can be difficult for dogs to digest. It’s important to note that every dog is unique, and some may have specific dietary restrictions or sensitivities. Consult your vet before making any significant changes to your dog’s diet.

Enjoy! 🍓🐾❤️
